I went snowboarding with the Brickmans.  I had a great time and am actually not completely terrible.  My knees and my backside are completely bruised from falling, but I was still in it.  Then I gave myself a concussion.  And that was that.

The Brickmans took care of me for the rest of the day.

Coffee and a book

I love to sit in a coffee shop and read a book.  I have plenty of coffee and a wonderful space to read at home, but there is something about sitting in a booth surrounded by strangers that makes me feel as though I'm part of a community.  And I can't seem to brew a great cup of coffee at home.

Went to the Guthrie with my mom to see Kevin Kling, an amazing storyteller from Minnesota.  He was incredible.

Those boots came in handy today.  It snowed for nearly 24 hours.

I wore my boots today.  First time this season.  All the weather guys said the snow was coming and I dressed thinking I'd be outside all day covering snow.  Instead I ended up sweltering in a crowded gym shooting basketball.  These boots are toasty.

Leaving Belgrade

Drove two hours to Belgrade today for a story.  It was a tight turn, but a fun story.  I should have had Aristea take a picture of my frantic editing in the SAT truck, but I was too focused to think of anything else but the story.  Today was one of those days when I needed 15 more minutes to edit, 10 even.  10 minutes is forever.  But 10 o'clock comes at the same time everyday and the story has to get on TV.

This photo is on the two hour drive home after I demolished my emergency stash of trail mix and started breathing again.  Rocking out to Christmas tunes.

With the Bents.  We saw Rogue Valley at the Cedar.  It's the only rock club I know that sells coffee and serves it in a ceramic mug.  This is the first time I've had to return dirty dishes at a concert.

I have been going to the Egg and I restaurant in South Minneapolis after long runs as a reward for, well, running a long way.  I get a single kamikaze pancake and a side of three sausage links, coffee and OJ.  I have never ever finished the entire thing.  Until today.  And I didn't even go on a long run.  I just really wanted a pancake.

I had my first hockey game of the season tonight.  My work schedule doesn't allow me to play at many games, but my team lets me come whenever I can.  Tonight I scored a goal and two assists and had a great time.

Last week at work there was some trash talk about who makes the best pie, so this week we held a pie bake-off.  What a great idea.  We should fight more often.

Cheescake

Baking my pie for the bake-off tomorrow.  2.5 POUNDS of cream cheese.  I'm using my dad's recipe and my grandma's mixer.  That mixer is quite the work horse, built when things lasted.  It's older than I am and will likely outlast me.

I've been cooking a lot more than usual.  In the past couple weeks I've made latkes, soup, brownies, apple cake, and homemade mac and cheese.  I made a stop after work today to pick up all ingredients for a pie I'm making tomorrow for Saturday's pie bake-off.
